Hello! I’m Brennen.
I am a game designer and technical artist based in Edmonton, Alberta, I am a two-time graduate of Edmonton Digital Arts College. I received a Game Design diploma in 2017, and a 3D Art & Animation Production Diploma in 2019. When I first started making video games I had intended on becoming a level designer, and I was always a little scared of the idea of coding. I didn’t think I would be any good at it. I shortly learned that I do not like level design and I love coding. I constantly found myself falling into more technical roles in any group project during my studies and any game jam I participated in, as well as constantly helping others in my class with their coding woes.
After I graduated I worked on a few short-term game projects and found that my designs were often limited by my unpolished artistic skills and what free resources I could find online. I decided to attend EDAC once more, this time for 3D Art. My knowledge of similar programs helped me learn various art production programs quickly, and I found joy in working on environment art. By the end of the course, I shifted my focus to technical art, where I spent a month teaching myself how to code shaders in CG and HLSL and finally made my own vertex deformation snow shader.
As you may realize from what is written above, I like to diversify my skill-set and learn new techniques, programs, and theory related to the industry. I am always seeking to further my craft.
When I’m not working on games, I may be cooking, DMing or playing DnD, or hanging out with my cat (but I’m probably playing video games).
